Important information about transferring domain names
Before transferring a domain name to us, please read the following information carefully. At the bottom of this article, you’ll find instructions for moving domain names from specific registrars.
- Your domain name must be at least 60 days old (from the initial registration date) before it can be transferred.
- Unless your domain name is a .co.uk, .uk, or .org.uk we recommend having at least 7 days left before its renewal date to be transferred safely. If you have fewer days than that, you may want to renew it with Google Domains first and make a note to transfer at a later date.
- Transferring a domain to us adds a year’s renewal on, so it’s basically like you’re renewing it at the same time.
- Any time remaining on your domain name before this will be kept and added to the total. So for example, if you’re transferring a domain name with six months left before it’s due to renew, after transferring it will have 18 months before renewal.
- If you’re in the middle of migrating to us, or planning to book a migration (more on that here: [https://www.lyricalhost.com/moving-in] Moving In), you don’t need to transfer your domain yet - our team will ask you about that when they get to that point in the process. If you move your domain too early on in the migration process, you can cause downtime for your website, so if you’re unsure please raise a ticket with our support team [https://hub.lyricalhost.com/submitticket.php] first.
- If you’re working with clients, helping friends or relatives, or otherwise, please ensure that all domain names are registered in their names and in their own accounts. This prevents ownership, communication and billing problems further down the line (and they can add you as a sub-user [https://hub.lyricalhost.com/knowledgebase/134/How-to-add-a-sub-user-to-your-Hub-account.html] to their account to manage things as needed).
- Domain privacy is included with us, so you don’t need to worry about that.
