How do I transfer my domain name from GoDaddy?

This guide explains how to transfer a domain from GoDaddy.

1. Please check your domain contact information is correct, especially the administrator's email address as all emails regarding the transfer will go there.

  • Go to the Domains Control Center page in your GoDaddy control panel.
  • Check the box next to the domain(s) you want to update. Or, click the checkmark icon and Select All.
  • From the menu above your domain list, select Ownership, then Update Contacts.
  • Enter your new contact information details.
  • Click Save once you've made your updates. Note: It can take up to 48 hours for your new information to update on the WHOIS database.
  • If you have made changes to the organization, first name, last name or email address then you'll receive an email from GoDaddy to approve the changes.

2. Cancel Protected and Private Registration on your domain.

If you have Privacy & Protection on your domain with GoDaddy then you'll need to remove it so you can transfer the domain to Lyrical Host.

  • Log in to your GoDaddy Domain Control Center.
  • Check the box next to the domain(s) you'll be downgrading (you may need to switch to "advanced view" next to the search bar).
  • Select Ownership > Downgrade Privacy Protection from the top bar.
  • Choose the "Basic Privacy Protection" option.
  • Select Confirm.
  • Check the box next to "Yes, I consent to remove Protection for the selected domains(s) then select continue
  • Verify your identity by entering your verification code. This will be sent via SMS or an authentication app for two-step verification or an email for a one-time password (OTP), depending on your account settings.
  • Enter your verification code and select Verify.

Note: It can take up to 90 minutes for these changes to take effect.

3. Unlock your domain.

  • Log in to your GoDaddy Domain Control Center.
  • Check the box next to the domain(s) you'll be unlocking.
  • Select Settings > Unlock domains from the top bar.
  • Check the box next to "Yes, I consent to unlock the selected domain(s)" then select Continue.

Note: It can take up to 90 minutes for these changes to take effect.

4. Get an authorisation code.

  • Log in to your GoDaddy Domain Control Center.
  • Select the domain you'll be transferring to get to the Domain Settings page.
  • Under Additional Settings, select Transfer domain away from GoDaddy (Option showing disabled? Create and download an exportable list instead).
  • Review the transfer checklist, then select Continue with the transfer.
  • Select Click here to see Authorization Code.
  • Select Copy to Clipboard to copy your authorization code. We'll also send an email with your auth code to the administrative email address on your domain name.
  • Select Return to Domains List to go back to your list of domains, or select Cancel transfer to go back to the Domain Settings page.

5. Initiate the transfer by ordering the transfer through

  • Select 'Domains' at the top of the site
  • Select 'Transfer in a Domain' on the left-hand side
  • Enter your domain name and the authorisation code
  • Select 'Add to Cart'
  • This will charge you the equivalent of one year's renewal of the domain, as we have to renew the domain during transfer. Don't worry - you will just get one extra year on top of the expiry date, you won't lose any time you already have left on the domain.

6. Allow the domain transfer to complete over five full days. Keep an eye on your emails as any information will be sent to the administrative contact email address.
