How to set up Google Analytics for your WordPress website

Google Analytics is the leading tool for recording and analyzing your website stats. It will show you information such as how many visitors you've had to your website, how long people stay, where they're from, who referred them to your website, and similar. While AWStats is included and activated in your LyricalCP by default, Google Analytics contains a lot more information. If you work with brands, some may request view access to your Google Analytics account to check out your stats for themselves, so it's important to have it set up and running as soon as possible.

1. Head to https://analytics.google.com/ log in to your Google account if needed, and then click "Sign up."

2. When prompted, choose to add a "website" (i.e. not a mobile app).

3. Fill out the form that asks you for details such as your website name and time zone. If you're not sure what to put for your account name, just enter your website name.

4. Click "Get Tracking ID", and then click "I Agree" to the terms and conditions.

5. Now you'll see a "Website tracking" heading and underneath it, a box with some code. Copy this code and then head to your WordPress Dashboard.

If you'd like to set up Google Analytics using a plugin that also displays your stats in your WordPress Dashboard:

i) Go to Plugins > Add New and search for the "MonsterInsights" plugin. Install and activate it.

ii) On the left hand side in your WordPress Dashboard menu, you should see a new link called "Insights". Click it and head to "Settings".

iii) Next to "Google Authentication", click the "Authentic with your Google account" button.

iv) This will direct you to your Google account. Click "Next" and then "Allow" to confirm access.

v) The last step is to "Pick a profile" in MonsterInsights and then hit the "Complete Authentication" button.

You can then see your Google Analytics stats from your WordPress Dashboard by going to Insights > Reports. It will take a few hours for stats to start showing up.

Alternatively, if you'd like to set up Google Analytics with a standard code insert plugin:

i) Install and activate a "Insert headers and footers" plugin by going to Plugins > Add New and using the search box to find a header editing plugin that is compatible with the latest version of WordPress.

ii) Go to the plugin's settings page, and paste the code from step 5 into the header scripts box.

iii) Save your changes.

Head to https://analytics.google.com to see your stats. It will take a few hours for stats to start showing up.
